Every movie I’ve directed has dealt with the theme that the labor elite, bureaucratic elite and corporate elite are sucking dry the spiritual and economic capital from the citizens of Tromaville. Since September 11, 2001, this theme has become even more of a reality for all of us.
What has happened in the past 10 years? Let’s see- Harvey and Bob got rich buying real estate down near Ground Zero, the New York Stock Exchange opened on time and the country is bankrupt. Obama ran on a platform of hope and change but is now echoing the same fear-mongering “credible threat” which Bush used to scare people into re-electing him for a second term.
So on this 10 year anniversary of 9/11, let’s all join together and bathe in the labor, bureaucratic and corporate elites’ exploitation of 3600 dead people, while 25 million children are starving to death in Africa and 25% of our U.S population has moved down the food chain to become “poor”. But I’m not bitter! Instead let’s revisit this Pollyanna-ish essay that I wrote almost 10 years ago.
